Adding or editing a Discovery search source

When you add or edit a Discovery search source, you can specify the search fields that you want to associate with the search source, and any match fields that you want to use to match and merge data on from multiple Discovery search sites associated with the Discovery search source. For example, if you have a Discovery search source set up to handle data from two different Discovery source sites, and both sites pull records for the same items, you can designate a search field (such as ISBN) as a match field. Portfolio will then match records based on that field and merge the data from multiple records during the import process.

Due to a known issue with Portfolio's match fields function, choosing to merge fields may make item details unavailable in the Checkout tab of My Account. Item details are still available in all other areas of Portfolio, however.

You can also specify a schedule for when to index data for this Discovery search source. If you are setting up a Discovery search source to handle ILS data, then you can set up both a full indexing schedule and a delta indexing schedule. A full indexing schedule specifies when to perform the harvest, import, and index procedures on all the MARC records in your ILS. A delta indexing schedule specifies when to perform the harvest, import, and index procedures on a subset of MARC records in your ILS, such as those that have recently been added or updated.

If you add, edit, or remove a Discovery search source, or if you add, edit, or remove any Discovery source sites associated with a Discovery search source, you must refresh the Discovery search cache afterwards. Your changes are not reflected in Searching or the Admin console until you refresh the search cache. For more information about refreshing the Discovery search cache, see Refreshing the search cache.

Important: When you schedule when a task should run, you need to be aware of the location of the server in relation to your location. Scheduled times are local to the server hosting Enterprise. For example, if the server is located in the US Mountain time zone and you are located in the US Eastern time zone, a task scheduled for 11:00 pm on the 6th will run at 1:00 am on the 7th your local time.

  6. Choose OK to save your changes, or choose Cancel to discard your changes and return to Discovery Search Sources.
